Antique Carved Oak Eagle Lectern (European, 17th century)

A striking and very impressive carved oak lectern in the form of an eagle / pheonix. With wonderful rich deep colour and excellent patina.

A wonderful book stand, which would make a dramatic statement piece in any setting, whether featuring the earliest classic right up to a Harry Potter first edition.

Beautifully crafted, with an exceptional depth and detail of carving, from the eyes and feathers of the pheonix / eagle all the way down the stem to the decoratively shaped base.

This piece would have been made by a master carver as a special commission.

Top part rotates, and features pheonix / eagle with outstretched wings (24 inches, 61 cm wide), and with talons grasping a ball. Back of eagle with book rest formed by two iron bars.

There is a horizontal slot in the middle of the back, with a small wooden shelf which slides in. This was designed to support smaller books, so the reader could still look over the top of the lectern whilst reading.

Lower section features three-sided tapering column, with three carved S scroll supports, all standing on a tri-form plinth with concave sides and moulded edge.

65.00 inches high, 33.00 inches wide
(165.10 cm high, 83.82 cm wide)

Ticket price £9,950.00
