Antique Fruitwood Chest of Drawers with Lift up Lid (English, circa 1730 to 1750)

A superb collector's piece of unique design. Top lifts up to reveal half-height open storage area. Front has two rows of false drawer fronts, with two rows of working drawers below.

In fruitwood, which is always rare as fruit trees rarely grew big enough to make a substantial piece of furniture (and all the boards would have to come from the same tree for them to match).

Very good patina and lovely warm mellow faded colour. Beautiful patterning in the grain.

Drawers (and dummy drawer fronts) with cock-beading and with decorative border of chequered inlay in three country woods. Original gilt brass swan neck handles and keyhole escutcheons.

Standing on original ogee bracket feet.

Panelled sides, and four panelled back (a sign of quality, commissioned for a wealthy client at the time).

30.50 inches high, 37.25 inches wide, 19.50 inches deep
(77.47 cm high, 94.61 cm wide, 49.53 cm deep)

Ticket price £5,750.00
